At Dr Ned E Smith Jr. office....our children and young adult patients are very important to us. We strive to gain your child’s confidence and help them achieve a positive attitude toward dentistry for life! We treat all
of our patients with dignity and respect. We want your child to be happy and look forward to visiting our office again.
We use “TELL, SHOW, DO” method. We explain what we are going to do, we then show on their finger or tooth what the procedure will feel like, and then do the procedure. Parents are encouraged to watch their children during dental procedures and voice any questions or concerns they may have before work begins. It is helpful for parents to assume a “silent observer” role during the procedure, as children have a difficult time listening to more than one adult.
You may accompany your child through any and all types of visits. Dr. Smith encourages the parent to be with the patient at all times if needed for the child’s comfort. For safety and privacy of all patients, other children who are not being treated should remain in the reception area with a supervising adult.
We use no
physical restraints or drugs to gain
We enjoy what
we do and it shows.
With the benefit of watching your child’s dental growth and development over several years, Dr. Smith can determine the optimal time for orthodontic treatment, if needed. He makes the transition into braces very comfortable for the children because they have already built a positive relationship with Dr. Smith during routine dental visits. Parents feel good because it’s easy to keep all of your dental visits in one office… a place that already feels like home.
Many general dentists identify their practices with the description of “Family Dentistry.” Most parents are often unaware that general dentistry does not require additional training and education beyond their four year graduation from dental school to treat children. Pediatric Dentistry, on the other hand, is a recognized specialty which requires an additional two year residency after graduating dental school. Pediatric dentists are specially trained for the specific needs of children, especially dealing with anxiety that many children may have coming to the dentist. Dr. Smith specializes in caring for and treating patients with special needs. We believe all children deserve the benefits of dental health and happy smiles.
We employ a highly trained staff who are Registered Dental Hygienists and Certified Dental Assistants.
